Symptoms & Causes

You run SONbuddy in ad-hoc mode from your device and after SONbuddy finish configuring, you may receive this error message. After you click OK, the application closes. This behavior can occur when SONbuddy driver did not bind to the wireless network card that the user selects. The input parameter used on GUI mismatched with the one maintained by the driver therefore driver fails to retrieve the MAC address of the specified network card from the input buffer.

 

Solution

Step 1: Disable and enabled the wireless network card

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. In Control Panel, double-click Networking and Internet Connections, and then click Network Connections.
3. Right-click on the Wireless Network Connection and click Disable.
4. When you see that the wireless network connection is gray-out, right-click and select Enable again.
5. Restart SONbuddy.

Step 2: Reinstall SONbuddy driver

1. Go to SONbuddy root directory C:/Program Files/Green Packet/SONbuddy for Windows XP.
2. Run UninstallSONbuddy.exe application to uninstall SONbuddy driver.
3. Reboot the device after uninstallation.
4. Restart SONbuddy to install the driver with the wireless network card plug in during the installation of driver.
5. Run SONbuddy.
