Q: What is the difference between SONbuddy
and other file sharing, messaging clients?
Contrary to those clients, SONbuddy's applications
can run in a pure peer-to-peer mode so you don't need to worry about whether
you can access the instant messaging/file sharing server or whether there
is an Internet connection. All the nodes in the SONbuddy community-based
peer-to-peer network can talk to each other with BuddyMessenger without
relying on any infrastructure network. You don’t need to worry about
whether an IM server is keeping a copy of your messages or the files exchanged.
Q: How secure is SONbuddy’s VPN?
SONbuddy comes with 3 layers of built-in security:
1. Encryption of local storage of important data
2. Authentication and encryption of control messages. Hence the network forming and access can be managed and controlled
3. Authentication and encryption of user data communication
With the additional (external) link layer, transport
and application layer security, maximum security can be achieved. IPSec
policies will deter hackers from actively disrupting your communications.
SONbuddy VPN Encryption is based on the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES)-Rijndael
Algorithm which is selected by the National Institute of Standards and
Technology (NIST) as its next generation encryption standard. This algorithm
allows new level of security strength and speed that is not present in
the current VPN solutions.
Q: I am a mobile worker and only want to allow
certain people to connect to me. Can SONbuddy help me achieve this?
Sure! With SONbuddy, there are a few options that
allow this to be easily configured.
1. Create an instant private network by assigning private WEP key that only trusted peers know about.
2. Activate VPN using SONbuddy and pass the VPN key to those whom you allow to be connected to you.
3.Hide yourself in invisible mode so only those in your contact will be available to communicate with you.
4. Blacklist users if you don’t want them to see or bother you.
Q: Using SONbuddy's VoIP software, can both
parties talk at the same time?
SONbuddy's VoIP software uses full duplex mode
which supports users to talk at the same time.
Q: How is SONbuddy's Internet sharing different
from other Internet Connection Sharing?
BuddyGateway makes Internet connection hassle-free.
It is designed especially for a mobile ad hoc network environment where
dynamic changes in the environment happen all the time.
1. It permits devices to automatically detect available gateway, without any pre-configuration.
2. It provides load balancing and fail-over of the gateways.
3. It redirects intelligently and efficiently access to gateways according to amount of traffic on the network and availability.
4. It provides external network access to other SONbuddy devices that are multiple hops away.
5. It provides secured connection between SONbuddy's devices and the gateway device.
Q: Using SONbuddy File sharing, can I unknowingly
receive a virus while downloading or receiving file?
We recommend that you scan all the files you have
downloaded using Antivirus software. With an antivirus installed, SONbuddy
can be configured to actively scan all received files.
Q: Using SONbuddy File sharing, is there a
file size limit for uploading or downloading files?
File uploads are limited to 30MB in size. However
for downloading files, there is no limit to the file size.
