How to install SONbuddy

Welcome to SONbuddy's Online Tutorial to help you configure SONbuddy. Let's get started...

Before you install SONbuddy, go through this checklist!

1. SONbuddy pre-installation checklist

1. Minimum RAM: 128
2. CPU: Intel Pentium 2 and above
3. Operating System: Windows 2000, Windows XP, Tablet PC

 

2. Compatible WLAN card

1. Latest WLAN driver installed (Update your drivers periodically from your vendor's website).
2. To enjoy SONbuddy network, please ensure that the driver for your WLAN card is NDIS 5.1 compliant.

Installation is quick and easy. You can do it in a couple of minutes. Do make sure however that you have a license key with you (Evaluation or full).

You will see this window after SONbuddy is installed. To install its driver, you need to enter a license key.

Warning: DO NOT use the same license key for 2 different devices in the network. Both SONbuddy on these devices will stop working.

Installing SONbuddy license

License type
There are three types of licenses that SONbuddy offers:
- SONbuddy Gold License
- SONbuddy Lite License
- SONbuddy Evaluation License

How to install SONbuddy Gold License

1. After installing SONbuddy, enter the new 32 character serial number to install the license.
2. Click OK.
3. You will receive a confirmation message, indicating that the license is installed successfully:
"Now you can start to enjoy unlimited SONbuddy"
4. Click OK.

Important: If you are using Lite or Evaluation License previously, please upgrade your license to Gold License before proceeding to install license.

How to install SONbuddy Lite License

1. After installing SONbuddy, enter the new 32 character serial number to install the license.
2. Click OK.
3. You will receive a confirmation message, indicating that the license is installed successfully:
"Your license expires in 365 days. Warning: If you need to uninstall the SONbuddy software, please try not to manually remove files under the installation directory, so you can still reuse these files in the future."
4. Click OK.

 

How to install SONbuddy Evaluation License

1. After installing SONbuddy, enter the new 32 character serial number to install the license.
2. Click OK.
3. You will receive a confirmation message, indicating that the license is installed successfully:
"Your license expires in 30 days. Warning: If you need to uninstall the SONbuddy software, please try not to manually remove files under the installation directory, so you can still reuse these files in the future."
4. Click OK.

 

Upgrading SONbuddy license

Upgrade type
You can upgrade your SONbuddy license to Gold License if:
- You are using Evaluation license previously.
- You are using Lite license previously.

You can upgrade your SONbuddy license to Lite License if:
- You are using Evaluation license previously.

Note: You are not allowed to upgrade the same license (Lite and Evaluation) type after it expires.

How to install an upgraded SONbuddy License

1. Start SONbuddy
2. Go to BuddyManager and click the About tab
3. Click on the Upgrade button on the bottom of the page.
4. You will receive this message:
"To upgrade SONbuddy, please click the OK button to enter the new Unique SONbuddy Serial Number (USSN) included with your purchase of a SONbuddy valid license from an authorized vendor or from www.sonbuddy.com"
5. Click OK and enter the new 32 character serial number to upgrade the license.
6. You receive confirmation message to indicate that the license is installed successfully
7. Click OK
Note: Installation steps above are applicable to all Gold and Lite license type.

How to install an upgraded SONbuddy License after license expiration

1. Start SONbuddy
2. Enter the new 32 character serial number to upgrade the license.
3. You receive confirmation message to indicate that the license is installed successfully
4. Click OK
Note: Installation steps above are applicable to all Gold and Lite license type.

The information in this article applies to:
- SONbuddy 1.4 for Windows XP
- SONbuddy 1.4 for Windows 2000
